Project Blue Book

Started in 1952  This project was set up to to function as a scientific unit to study UFO's. Captain Edward Ruppelt was its leader. He is reported to been objective about UFO's. He selected Dr J. Allen Hynek as his chief scientific consultant. Ruppelt instituted an open policy with the media by issuing press releases regularly on sightings and any ongoing investigations. Ruppelt also encouraged military personnel to report any unusual sightings and issued a standard form to all commands to aid in the reporting. These changes still did not quell the public's opinion that the investigations were not complete and were superficial attempts to explain phenomenon as known natural events. Project Blue Book was in existence until 1969.
